The fall of 2025 marks a significant upgrade for BMW’s electric vehicle lineup, bringing better efficiency, extended range, and enhanced performance to its popular i4 models.
Enhanced Range for the 2026 BMW i4
The 2026 BMW i4 eDrive40 now delivers an estimated range of over 300 miles on a full charge, regardless of whether drivers choose 18-inch or 19-inch wheels. This improvement is largely due to the integration of advanced silicon carbide (SiC) inverter technology, previously introduced in the i5 lineup.
SiC inverters improve the efficiency of energy transfer from the battery to the electric motor. Compared to traditional silicon-based components, they offer better performance, higher power output, and improved heat resistance—resulting in greater overall efficiency and driving range.
Introducing the More Powerful BMW i4 M60
At the top of the lineup, BMW has replaced the i4 M50 with the new i4 M60, delivering a noticeable boost in performance. The i4 M60 produces 510 horsepower at startup—an increase of 41 hp over its predecessor—and reaches up to 593 horsepower in Sport mode.
This added power allows the M60 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric sedans in its class.
Estimated Driving Range
- i4 eDrive40:
- Up to 333 miles (18”)
- Up to 307 miles (19”)
- i4 M60:
- Up to 278 miles (19”)
- Up to 232 miles (20”)
These figures are based on preliminary BMW testing aligned with EPA standards.
New Features and Equipment Updates
The 2026 i4 lineup also introduces several new features and enhancements:
- Seal & Drive Tire Kit now included as standard
- Drive Recorder added to the Parking Assistant Professional package
- Black mirror caps and M Sport brakes with blue calipers included in the Shadowline package
- Optional Glass Controls are now available across all i4 models
