Air Canada has confirmed a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, marking a major step forward in the airline’s long-haul fleet modernization strategy. Although the order was initially listed as undisclosed in November 2025, it now highlights Air Canada’s continued commitment to expanding its widebody capabilities with Airbus.
The A350-1000 offers exceptional economics and lower operating costs, giving Air Canada a strong competitive edge in long-haul travel. With an industry-leading range of up to 9,000 nautical miles, the aircraft will play a key role in the airline’s global growth, enabling non-stop routes from Canada to high-demand markets across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
According to Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada, the A350-1000 represents a natural evolution of the airline’s fleet. He emphasized that the aircraft’s advanced capabilities and efficiency will unlock new long-haul opportunities, helping Air Canada strengthen global connectivity and define its next phase of growth.
From Airbus, Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, noted that Air Canada’s selection of the A350-1000 reflects confidence in one of the most technologically advanced widebody aircraft available today. The decision underscores not just modernization, but also the airline’s ambition to set new benchmarks in range, performance, and passenger experience.
Designed for ultra-long-haul comfort, the A350-1000 features the Airspace cabin, offering improved passenger wellbeing through lower cabin altitude and reduced noise levels—key benefits for long-duration flights.
The aircraft incorporates advanced aerodynamics and next-generation technology, powered by Rolls-Royce engines and lightweight materials. Together, these innovations deliver a 25% reduction in fuel burn and emissions compared to earlier-generation aircraft.
Sustainability is also a major focus. Like all Airbus aircraft, the A350 is already capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030. As of January 2026, the A350 Family has secured over 1,500 orders from 67 customers worldwide, reinforcing its position as a leading choice for modern long-haul travel.
